A couple days before the entry of the New Year, I watched the newly released movie "New Year's Eve." In both "NYE" scenarios, the celebrations were crazy and people were having a good time, just as they were last year, and the year before and long before that.

People love to celebrate and New Year's Eve is a perfect opportunity to do that -- to reflect on past resolutions and accomplishments and start fresh with a new slate of "this year I'm going to ..." challenges.

It's a familiar question asked by children when traveling to grandma's house or on vacation. Mom and Dad know exactly where the family is heading but they aren't counting on a traffic jam, slick roads, a flat tire or other unplanned pit stops.

Compare this scenario to the clinical research world and you can begin to grasp what our journey to human trials is about. This is a complex question that leaves many frustrated, but as we approach 2012, we hope to help you understand the work we're doing and the critical juncture we are at today.

Officials of the social club, 340 Metz St., presented Neidig with a check during an afternoon ceremony.

"This is unprecedented in the scope of what we do,'' Neidig said. "That a group of people got together and unanimously agreed this was the place to send their donation is humbling. It again re-emphasizes just how generous this community is and how much they support what we're doing.''

Curley announced during his trip to Erie from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston that progress has been made in testing the effectiveness of the Kanzius' device to kill cancer cells. Curley's research shows that the external radio-frequency generator destroys cancer cells in live mice without harming healthy tissue. He used a baseball analogy to explain the significance of that finding.
