Community for Kanzius Telethon a Huge Success

A big thank you from us here at Lilly Broadcasting, for making our 5th Community for Kanzius Telethon a huge success.

In just three hours time, your donations helped raise over $109,000 and counting.

Here at our station, the phones were ringing of the hook.  The community graciously opened up their pocketbooks to help out with the cause.  In our studio, local groups like the organizers of the annual David Schmidt Walk handed off massive checks.

"Our father passed away from cancer three years ago, so we decided to do a memorial walk for him," said Emily Schmidt-Ferrare.   "(It's) a 5-K walk on Father's Day, and because he had cancer, Kanzius was where we wanted to have a majority of our funds ($7,000) go to."

Outside of our studio, our on-air talent teamed up with the Erie Fire Department and collected donations from the community.

"The Kanzius Foundation is something that we've kind of been in line with since the beginning," said Erie Firefighter Darren Hart.  "Firefighters are at risk for certain forms of cancer, just because of the job we do.  So it kind of beehooves us to get involved with something like this."

Every dollar raised, will go towards research that is needed to make the John Kanzius treatment of cancer a reality.  The foundation will tell you...every penny counts.

"Thanks for spending an evening with us," said Mark Neidig of the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation.  "Thanks for believing that a better way is possible and thanks for giving."
