Coins for Kanzius fundraising effort

The Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation is hoping to use a grass roots approach in the nation's classrooms to raise money for the groundbreaking treatment.

The therapy, which uses targeting molecules to embed microscopic bits of metal into cancer cells which are then heated and killed with radio waves, is already receiving national attention.

At the national NEA convention in Washington, Foundation members were able to pitch teachers on the idea of using a coins for Kanzius fundraiser as a way to teach civic responsibility and more about the work.

Foundation director Mark Neidig says the idea was well received. The hope was to get schools in every state in the country involved in the fundraising effort.
